M.A.C announced their Marilyn Monroe collection plans monthssss ago, and all of us Old Hollywood fans nearly collapsed with excitement! The release of these Marilyn Monroe inspired products is set for this October, which I personally think should of been this month to coincide with her anniversary - just saying! The products look gorgeous however, they're all colours I had expected and wanted for a classic 50s collection. There will be 30 products; everything from nail polishes, to lipsticks to eyeshadows.
Unfortunately, I hate the packaging. I've hated the packaging on the last few M.A.C collections, and thought the Marilyn one would be something a bit more exciting! For a start, the picture they used of her is from The Black Sitting by Milton Greene in 1956. Definitely not a range of photos for a makeup collection, I was expecting something from her earlier shoots (a photo from this shoot would of been ideal - it actually shows her classic makeup and beauty in more detail). It all looks a tad drab, and almost cheap looking - which is a pity. Nonetheless, I'll be saving money from here on in to buy a chunk of this collection. I love the shades, they're very me and I need anything Marilyn Monroe, as we all know!

Oooh can't wait for this! I see what you mean about the packaging though, my first reaction was that it looks very cheap for M.A.C products! Have you ever visited the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge? They've got loads of Old Hollywood memorabilia you'd just loooove! :)

ReplyDeleteThe packaging is AWFUL, they look like knock-offs. MAC really need to up their game when it comes to the images and designs they use, because some of the cheaper brands are overtaking them and making them look dated and unprofessional. Still, love the look of a couple of the lipsticks, knew I would though. x

Something a little more classic and well known would have worked better, and I'm surpised its not a picture of her wearing red lipstick, since the collection is full of the stuff! Anyway, it won't deter me too much, I love Marilyn and MAC! xx

I'm also a bit obcessed with the marilyn look and pretty much all pin up makeup, so this collection is heaven. I do agree with you on the packaging situation, though I don't think white packaging would look less cheap!
ReplyDeleteThe lipstick range looks amazing and I even like the nude one (I usually hate nudes). What I don't get is why are there no matte shadows? It's a bit weird. They look gorgeous though :)
I was thinking about the lack of matte shadows too - very weird seeing as they're ALL she used herself?! odd.

ReplyDeleteI don't doubt the quality of all the products will be excellent as we all know, but as you said, the packaging... omg...they could've done it so much better than this. If they wanted to go black and white they coulde've tried at least with Warhol's Marilyn print, or the photoshoot you said... still I'm also going to be saving to buy some of it (:

I really didn't expect it to look anything like this! I thought there'd be more of a white and red colour scheme to them. You can't doubt the quality/how lovely the colours are though. I'll definitely be bankrupting myself in October! xx

I think it would have been nicer without a photo of her at all - they could put photos on the posters and stuff but I think it'd have been better to keep the packing simple maybe with a red lipstick kiss or something! still though the shades look nice especially the lipsticks! x

So, I love the era and I thought that M.A.C were going to do something a bit extra special, like maybe make them filigree and gold and stuff, almost like a 50's vanity table styled packaging, but this packaging is just horrible!!! I hate it, it looks cheap!!!!

I must say I expected something a lot more classy looking.. it looks a lot like various other cheaper Marilyn products I own, it might have looked better with just a simple signature but I will, nonetheless, be saving for a red lipstick :)

I completely agree with you about the packaging I was really excited about this collection coming out and I was hoping for a really sleek classy look buy in saying that I probably will buy at least one thing because it's Marilyn.

I agree the packaging looks cheap and tacky plus I'm not too fussed on the products. I think I'll have to look at them in a MAC shop but they look like products I can get from other brands for cheaper :/
